mSLICE
The slice option in mTAB provides the ability to export SAS, SPSS, and Mapped
ASCII ready data for use with the respective application. mTAB will create
definition or variable files for each of these applications.
To Slice mTAB Data:
- File NameSelect a destination file name. This file will contain the raw
“sliced” data from mTAB. Also, any variable or definition files created for SAS,
SPSS, and Mapped ASCII will be created using the same name and different extension.
(.SAS for SAS output, .DEF for SPSS output, and .MAP for Mapped ASCII)
Output StyleChoose the type of output from the Output Style section (SAS, SPSS, or Mapped
ASCII).
Export TypeSelect an export type from the Export section. Slice will export data in many
useful forms. Slice can export data records with Selected Questions Only. This is the default for Slice. Questions are exported as they are
currently selected under Rows, Columns, and Third Level. You may also choose to export All Questions from the database regardless of questions currently selected. Things that
can also be included in this data file is the Respondent Weights. If selected, slice will include the default weights (WTS_REG) for each
record as well as the conditional weights (WEIGHTS) that are applied to specific
columns. Verbatim Responses can also be selected and exported. Respondent Info (if applicable) can also be selected. A Respondent Info question is data
that is unique for each respondent and is embedded (not a visible question) in
mTAB. Examples of Respondent Info data would be Name, Phone, Zip Code (5 or 9
digit) or Email Address.
Respondent Base (Optional)mTAB provides the ability to export data using the current filter, or Create a
Random Subset. Choose one of these options to apply a filter or create a
random sample of the data.
Choose Saved Sample File Name (Optional)Everytime you run a slice output using a question filter, or Random Subset
(step 4), slice creates a file which contains the identity of the records dumped
for that slice output. You may use this option to use the same records from any
previous slice output..
